Brebes, Central Java, While many associate Ramadan with spiritual reflection and reduced physical activity, Indonesian Army personnel under the TMMD (TNI Manunggal Membangun Desa) Program are proving that dedication does not slow down during fasting. In Brebes, Central Java, soldiers from Kodim 0713/Brebes continue accelerating rural road concrete construction as part of TMMD Regular Program 127.
Under the intense tropical heat and while observing the Ramadan fast, the soldiers work side by side with local residents. The mission is simple yet impactful: complete a vital road infrastructure project that will significantly improve economic mobility and daily transportation access for the community.
Leadership in Action: Captain Suwarno on Duty
The field operations are led by Captain Inf. Suwarno, Company Commander (Danki SSK) of TMMD Regular 127. According to him, fasting is not a reason to reduce productivity.
“Fasting is not an obstacle for us. In fact, during this blessed month, our motivation grows stronger. We understand how important this road is for the community’s economic access and mobility,” Captain Suwarno stated at the project site.
His leadership reflects a broader principle within the Indonesian Army: service to the people is an integral part of duty and in this case, also a form of devotion.
Strategic Oversight from Battalion Command
Overseeing the entire operation is Lieutenant Colonel Inf. Ambariyantomo, S.Hub.Int., Commander of Kodim 0713/Brebes and Field Commander of TMMD 127. He emphasized that maintaining construction quality standards remains a top priority, even during Ramadan.
“I highly appreciate the unwavering spirit shown on the ground. This is a clear demonstration of the strong unity between the Army and the people. Even while fasting, the concrete casting standards are maintained according to technical specifications,” Lt. Col. Ambariyantomo explained.
Such oversight ensures that the project is not merely symbolic. It delivers durable infrastructure designed to support agricultural distribution routes, small-scale logistics, and long-term village development.
TMMD: Military and Civilian Synergy in Motion
The TMMD program represents one of Indonesia’s most visible civil-military cooperation initiatives. Rather than focusing solely on defense readiness, TMMD units are deployed to remote areas to build roads, bridges, sanitation systems, and other critical infrastructure.
In Brebes, this collaboration between soldiers and villagers illustrates more than construction activity. It reflects what Indonesians call “Kemanunggalan TNI dan Rakyat” the inseparable unity between the military and the people.
While others count down the hours to sunset during Ramadan, TMMD personnel count the meters of road completed. Each layer of concrete poured is not just infrastructure it is a tangible investment in rural economic resilience.
Infrastructure with Purpose
The road currently under construction will provide smoother access for farmers transporting produce, small traders delivering goods, and students commuting daily. In regions like Brebes, reliable road access directly translates into measurable economic growth.
Ramadan may test physical endurance, but for the soldiers of TMMD 127, it also reinforces discipline, teamwork, and commitment to national development.
In Brebes, fasting does not slow progress it strengthens purpose.
