With a sharp nose and like a whale, these are 6 aircraft with unique designs
Airplanes are one of the favorite means of transportation nowadays. By using a plane we can save time when traveling to distant places.
Apart from that, airplanes are also useful for human survival, such as sending goods quickly and supporting technological developments. Some of these planes have designs so strange that you might be afraid to fly. Here are 6 aircraft with unique designs.
1. Airbus Beluga
The Airbus Beluga is an aircraft used to help transport various aircraft components during the design process. Initially it was called Super Transporter but because its shape looked more like a whale, the name was changed to Beluga. There are only five of these aircraft and have been in operation since 1994.
2. Scaled Composites Proteus
This strange plane first flew in 1998. This plane was designed for a unique reason. Proteus was designed as an experiment to see how good aircraft were at relaying telecommunications signals. Another extraordinary fact about this plane is that it can fly at an altitude of 60,000 feet or 18km above the ground and can stay in the air for more than 18 hours.
3. Handley Page Victor
This strange aircraft is a former strategic bomber aircraft developed by the British Handley Page Aircraft Company. The aircraft was produced in a series of V bombers including the Avro Vulcan and Vickers Valiant. Victor is equipped with radar, cameras and other sensors to better function in its role of gathering intelligence.
4. Bartini Beriev VVA-14
The Bartini is a vertical fighter aircraft from the Soviet Union, this seaplane was developed in the 1970s. Its ultimate goal is a design that allows it to take off from the water and fly long distances at very high speeds.
Apart from flying at high altitude, this aircraft uses aerodynamic ground effects to have the ability to fly directly above sea level. This project was developed by Italian designer Robert Bartini, unfortunately this project was slowly abandoned because Robert Bartini passed away.
5. EL/M-2075 Phalcon
This plane has a strange nose for a reason. This nose was designed by Israel Aerospace Industries and Elta Electronics Industries of Israel as a radar that would provide early warning if it detects enemy aircraft, ships and vehicles. This system is designed for the Boeing 707. The Boeing 707 that has been designed will be called the Phalcon.
6. Aerodyne
This experimental wingless aircraft was one of the many inventions of German aircraft designer and pioneer of aerodynamics, Alexander Lippisch. Although many of us find this plane strange, especially because it has no wings.
However, after testing, this plane successfully took off and landed vertically. Unfortunately, just a month after the test flight, the West German government decided to cancel the project for unknown reasons.
