The Nissan Formula E team aims to dominate the electric car race at the Jakarta E-Prix, Ancol, North Jakarta.
The qualifying round will take place at 10:40 CET on 3 and 4 June 2023, while the race will take place at 15:00 on both days.
The Nissan Formula E team believes that the toughness of drivers Sacha Fenestraz and Norman Nato will be able to consistently win the most points.
But both Fenestraz and Nato will face a unique test on the Formula E calendar this time, both from a technical and physical standpoint.
This is because the 2.4 kilometer long Jakarta E-Prix Circuit has a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius with very high humidity due to its proximity to Ancol Beach.
"Jakarta will be tough for everyone. It's very hot, humid and physically tough for the drivers. These conditions will also be tough for all the teams. With this in mind, we focused on finding the best set-up to keep the car as great as possible and take care of the tires," said Tommaso Volpe, Managing Director and Team Head, Nissan Formula E Team in Jakarta, Friday (02/06/2023).
The Nissan Formula E Team Must Face the Heat of Jakarta
Fenestraz, who also considers the circuit with 18 corners at the Jakarta E-Prix to be very attractive, also recognizes obstacles to extreme weather.
"Hottest race of the year and everyone is telling me how tough it is! But the track looks interesting, similar to Monaco or Cape Town in some corners and track characteristics, so I hope we will have a great weekend," he said.
"I am happy to race in Jakarta, a new place for me. It will be very difficult physically for the team and the drivers because of the high temperatures. We will try to fulfill the promise we have shown in Monaco, and hopefully we can put both cars in the best place." said Nato.
Use New Car
Volpe explained that the Nissan team used the Season 9 Generation 3 (Gen3) car which was brand new for this race. Of course, the team has added power and reduced the weight of the car.
However, he admitted that using new tires was also a challenge, not even for his team, but for all the participants.
"Yes, these new tires are a challenge in themselves. But I will try to save on tires considering the track conditions are very hot," he said.
His target in Jakarta, he said, was to repeat the success in Monte-Carlo when Sacha and Norman managed to finish in the top three in qualifying, and finally Fenestraz claimed fourth place in the race.
This is also Nato's goal just before racing in Jakarta this weekend.
"Being second and third in qualifying are great achievements, but we must always look to improve and continue the momentum we've already gained. This weekend we'll keep our word and turn that into a strong two, to start the second half of season 9 off with a good start. which is good," he said.
