If you were born in the 1970s to 1980s, you must know about Daihatsu Hijet. So actually PT Astra Daihatsu Motor (ADM) had revived the modern generation Hijet. But the name changed to Daihatsu Hi-Max.
Now, Daihatsu Japan has launched its newest Hijet, including the Daihatsu Atrai. Both are positioned in different segments. If the Daihatsu Hijet 2022 is in the micro cargo category, then the New Atrai is in the passenger Kei Car class. That means Hijet is now in its eleventh generation.
So what's the difference between the Daihatssu Hijet 2022 and its predecessor? It turns out a lot! Let's peel in more detail.
Daihatsu Hijet 2022 Now Uses DNGA
One of the most interesting things about the existence of the latest Daihatsu Hijet is the platform used. For New Hijet and New Atrai, it turns out that they already use the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA). This is the second use of DNGA for Kei Car Daihatsu after previously starting from Tanto.
But for Hijet, it is clear that this is Daihatsu's first commercial car to use the DNGA platform. The company apparently has its own reasons why Hijet Cargo has changed quite drastically. The concept of "Highly Efficient Cargo" seems to be the benchmark for the Hijet 2022 design.
Strong demand from the e-commerce segment, SME traders, the agricultural industry, to the package delivery industry, makes this car suitable. Because with its compact dimensions it will make it easy for the vehicle to enter remote areas. On the one hand, its cargo capacity can carry many items at once.
Cooler than Daihatsu Hi-Max
If we compare it with the Daihatsu Hi-Max which was marketed in Indonesia, the Hijet 2022 doesn't look like a commercial vehicle. You could say he has more of a character like Gran Max which could have been transformed into a passenger car.
The front fascia is quite simple with large square headlights. The grille also has only two horizontal slats without any chrome accents or black gloss. The front bumper is painted matte black, still using tin wheels, but the side glass looks like a one piece model.
But take a look at the payload capacity in the Daihatsu Hijet 2022 cabin. The luggage compartment height is 1,250 mm, the length is 1,915 mm, the width is 1,270 mm, and the door opens up to 785 mm. With such a large cargo space, Hijet can load 68 medium-sized boxes, 71 small-sized boxes, and 9 rolls of knitting mats.
Uniquely, in standard conditions this car can still be loaded with up to 4 passengers including the driver. So it's still bida if you want to go out with your family on weekends when the shop is closed.
The latest Daihatsu Hijet is packed with many modern features and a CVT transmission
Even though the Hijet is in the commercial vehicle category, Daihatsu has installed many modern features in this vehicle. Among them are the keyless entry system and the existence of the Start/Stop Engine. Then the side door also uses an electric sliding model on both sides. To open this door simply push the button on the dashboard or the button on the outside door handle. This makes Hijet the first LCV (Low Commercial Vehicle) to use this feature.
Meanwhile, the interior layout is also similar to the Daihatsu Atrai 2022. Among other things, the touch screen head unit already supports Android Auto and Google CarPlay. The difference is that Atrai uses a 9-inch monitor while Hijet has 6.8 inches.
Then Hijet Cargo also has Diahatsu Smart Assist. There are 13 active safety and security devices in this car. Such as Collision Warning Function, False Start Suppression Control, Lane Departure Warning, Roadside Deviation Warning, Auto High Beam, to Side View Lamp.

From a mechanical perspective, Daihatsu Hijet uses a 660 cc engine with 46 PS and 60 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the Atrai has 64 PS of power and 91 Nm of torque, even though the engine cylinder capacity is similar.
Both Hijet and Atrai are available with a choice of 5-speed manual transmission or CVT automatic. However, because it uses the DNGA platform, the car now uses front-wheel drive.
