Toyota Vios hybrid is rumored to be released this year. The schedule is between the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth quarter of 2023. Again, Thailand will be the first country in Southeast Asia to get the new Toyota car.
Reporting from Headlightmag, Friday (10/12), Vios, which in the Land of White Elephants uses the name Yaris Ativ, will widen Toyota's product line for electrified vehicles.
The engine is similar to the Toyota Vios in Indonesia
If the Yaris Ativ has a conventional internal combustion engine with a capacity of 1,200 cc, it will be different from the hybrid version. Toyota is reportedly going to install a larger capacity engine, namely 1,500 cc 4-cylinder DOHC.
This machine is slightly similar to the Indonesian version of the Vios. Namely, using an engine coded 2NR-VE with a maximum power of 106 PS and 138 Nm of torque. Unfortunately, it is not yet known what type of electric motor and battery will be used in the hybrid model.
However, because the Yaris Ativ 2023 uses the DNGA platform, this sedan is strongly suspected of adopting hybrid technology made by Daihatsu. Namely e-Smart Hybrid which has been used on Rocky hybrid and Raize Hybrid in Japan.
Toyota Vios Hybrid Technology
e-Smart Hybrid is a series hybrid technology. This means that a conventional engine functions as a generator to provide electrical energy to the battery, which in turn is channeled to an electric motor that is directly connected to the car's wheels.
So that users will immediately feel the maximum output of the electric motor in a series hybrid car. One of the series hybrid cars that has been marketed in Indonesia is the Nissan Kicks e-Power, which was launched in 2020.
Apart from the engine, it is believed that the appearance of the hybrid variant of the Vios with the conventional engine variant is believed to have not changed much, except for a special hybrid indicator printed on the digital instrument panel, as seen on the Daihatsu Rocky Hybrid in Japan.
For the price tag, it is estimated that the price of the Toyota Vios hybrid in Thailand will increase by around 100 thousand baht compared to the petrol-engined variant. Currently, Yaris Ativ for the country's market costs from 549 thousand baht to 699 thousand baht.
