The Southeast Asia vehicle safety testing institute New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP) announced, from 2020-2023, out of 16 cars marketed in Indonesia, 15 of them have been labeled five stars, which means they already have the highest safety value.
This was mentioned by the ASEAN NCAP Technical Committee Adrianto Sugiarto Wiyono when he was met at the Vehicle Safety event.
Rian said, of the 16 trials over the course of four years, only one received a 4 star rating. That means, said Rian, automotive manufacturers or manufacturers are now aware of and focused on improving the safety of vehicles that will be sold en masse.
"Increasing safety features to protect customers, protect humans, this is a form of manufacturing that cares about safety," said Rian.
So, the cars that have been labeled 5 stars from the Asean NCAP from 2020-2023, namely the Toyota Kijang Innova, Toyota Fortuner, Toyota Corolla, Toyota Hilux, Toyota Veloz, Honda WR-V, Honda HR-V, Honda BR-V, Honda Civic, Honda Accord, Honda City, Isuzu DMax, Isuzu Mux, Mitsubishi Outlander and Hyundai Creta. As for the 4 stars is the Hyundai Stargazer.
Apart from having been tested in the ASEAN NCAP, Autofun will reveal several safety features that cars with a 5 star rating have from 2020-2023. Here's the review:
1. Toyota Kijang Innova
The Toyota Kijang Innova Zenix was launched late last year, and is known to have been equipped with various active and passive safety features which are certainly very useful. However, before launching the Zenix version, in 2020 the Kijang Innova was tested by the Asean NCAP and received a 5 star rating with a score of 82.69 points.
At that time, all Kijang Innova and Innova Venturer variants were equipped with Convenient Rear Camera, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Hill Start Assist (HSA) features. Especially for New Venturers, there are additional safety features in the form of Dual Knee Side and Curtain Shield Airbags.
This car is also equipped with Convenient Rear Camera for All Grades (G, V, Venturer (GAS & DSL), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) for All Grades (G, V, Venturer (GAS & DSL), Hill Start Assist (HSA) for All Grades (G, V, Venturer (GAS & DSL), Dual, Knee, Side andCurtain Shield Airbags (Venturer GAS & DSL Grades).
As for the Kijang Innova Zenix, it is more sophisticated because it already has Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) technology. Some of the active safety features of the Kijang Innova Zenix, namely Anti Lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assist (BA), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Parking Sensors and Rearview Camera. Apart from that, this car is also equipped with VSC, HSA, Pre-Collision System (PCS), Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert (LDA), Lane Tracing Assist (LTC), and Automatic High Beam.
The Kijang Innova Zenix is also equipped with front-row SRS Airbags, Child Safety Lock Seat Belts and also ISOFIX.
2. Toyota Fortuner
A car known as a tough figure, the Toyota Fortuner is also equipped with various safety features such as ABS, EBD, BA, parking sensors, rear view camera, then there are also dual SRS Airbags, totaling seven which are located on the steering wheel, front dashboard, driver's knees, pillars right and left, as well as driver's and passenger's seats.

Talking about the Corolla Cross, it is equipped with safety features, such as ABS braking, EBD, then there is also VSC, HSA, and Emergency Brake Signal. This car is also equipped with seven airbags that will inflate the driver's front, sides and knees to reduce the risk of injury from collisions, then 3-point seat belts with pretensioners and force limiters.
Now, for the Toyota Corolla Cross Hybrid GRS Sport itself, there is actually Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, which is a set of Toyota's active safety systems that offer various driving assistance features, including PCS, DRCC, and LDA.
4. Toyota Hilux
In 2020, the Toyota Hilux has also been tested by ASEAN NCAP and received a 5 star rating. Well, some of the safety features of the Toyota Hilux, such as at three points, namely Dual Airbags and Knee Bag which can protect against serious injuries in an accident.
There is also a braking system equipped with BA, ABS, EBD, then there are also VSC and Trailer Sway Control (TSC) features to maintain vehicle stability.
5. Toyota Veloz
In 2022, the Toyota Veloz has also carried out the ASEAN NCAP test and the results obtained a total value of 79.99 points or a 5 star rating. Apart from the various changes that have been made, this car is also equipped with TSS technology.
Some of the features available on the Toyota Veloz include Pre-Collision Warning and Pre-Collision Braking, Pedal Misoperation Control, Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention, and there is also a Front Departure Alert.
