Honda Shows Demonstration of the Honda LaneWatchTM Feature at the 2023 Vehicle Safety Course Event


ASEAN NCAP (New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asia) and MIROS held a Vehicle Safety Course which was held on March 16 2023 at the APP Polytechnic, Jakarta. The Honda WR-V is used as a car unit that is being demonstrated to display driving safety technology in Indonesia through the Honda LaneWatchTM feature.

Through this event, the ASEAN NCAP disseminated the testing protocol used for the safety test assessment of cars in Southeast Asia. Based on the ASEAN NCAP Protocol 2021-2025 a vehicle will get a high score if it has safety standards which include Overall Assessment Protocol, Vehicle Selection, Specification, Testing and Retesting, Fitment Rating System, Adult Occupant Protection (AOP), Child Occupant Protection (COP), Safety Assist Technologies (SATs), Motorcyclist Safety, Offset Frontal Impact, Side Impact and Knee Mapping Sled.

Based on the ASEAN NCAP test, ten Honda cars that have won the title of highest safety level are Honda City, Honda Civic, Honda CR-V, Honda Jazz, Honda HR-V, Honda BR-V, Honda Brio, Honda Amaze, Honda Accord and other products. Honda's newest small SUV, the Honda WR-V, was released in January 2023. Honda products have won the ASEAN NCAP highest safety rating from 2012 to 2023.

Yahaya Ahmad, Chief Restraint Working Group ASEAN NCAP said that, "Motor vehicle manufacturers, especially in the Southeast Asia region, are expected to refer to the ASEAN NCAP Protocol which has been implemented since 2021. So that motorized vehicle manufacturers can apply various advanced safety features, especially Safety Assist. Technologies to reduce road accident rates”

Yusak Billy, Business Innovation and Sales Marketing Director of PT Honda Prospect Motor said that, "Honda's achievement from ASEAN NCAP is Honda's commitment to the safety of its users and is in line with Honda's vision of Safety For Everyone to create a safer environment for drivers, passengers and other road users. This has been proven through testing the safety features of Honda products through very strict procedures and standards from ASEAN NCAP."

The Honda LaneWatchTM feature is located on the left mirror of the Honda WR-V which is useful for providing visibility to see road conditions more clearly. Road conditions on the left side of the vehicle will be displayed on the head unit screen, so the driver can drive safer and also have more confidence. This feature is activated simply by pressing the left turn signal lever or pressing this feature button on the turn signal lever.

ASEAN NCAP is an assessment program for new cars in Southeast Asia. This program aims to evaluate vehicle safety standards, increase consumer awareness, and encourage the market to produce safer vehicles in the ASEAN region. The crash test that was carried out was a collaboration between ASEAN NCAP and also the Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI). In general, testing is carried out after the mass production of the model begins.
