Toyota managed to close 2022 with a satisfactory sales volume of 331,410 units on a wholesale basis, up 12.1% from 2021 which was at the level of 295,000 thousand. With this achievement, Toyota has succeeded in leading the Indonesian automotive market with a market share of 31.6%.
Toyota is optimistic that this growth will be influenced by the recovery of the national economy and an increase in people's purchasing power. Moreover, in line with the growth of the market as a whole, which has started a strong recovery after being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic in the past 2 years.
"In line with the improving national economy and increasing people's purchasing power, it has had a positive impact on the sales performance of the automotive industry, including Toyota," said Vice President of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Henry Tanoto.
"We are grateful that until now we are still able to run in harmony with the market and maintain a positive trend of sales growth throughout 2022 reaching more than 331,000 units," he continued.
"We hope that this trend will continue to move in a positive direction so that Toyota can contribute to improving the economy, while meeting the mobility needs of various customers," explained Henry.
Sales growth was strongly supported by positive customer acceptance of Toyota's product range. In terms of composition, Toyota's sales in 2022 will still be dominated by the MPV segment, which will contribute 57.6%.
The Most Selling Toyota Car in 2022
Several Toyota MPV & SUV lines such as Avanza, Kijang Innova and Kijang Innova Zenix, and Rush are still the main choice for community mobility solutions and lead as Toyota's best-selling car in 2022. This is reflected in Avanza's sales figures in 2022 which reached 60,619 units, an increase of 49% compared to the same period in 2021 of 40,777 units. When combined with Veloz, the sales figures for Avanza and Veloz reach 92,641 units.
In addition, the legendary Indonesian family car, the Kijang Innova, which has just upgraded its generation to become the Kijang Innova Zenix, managed to record total sales of 46,933 units. When combined, the total sales of Toyota's MPV segment control more than 52% of the national MPV market. The electrification vehicle segment is also showing an increasingly positive trend this year. Total sales as a whole sales have exceeded 4,463 units. A very significant increase of 130% from 2021 which closed at the level of 1,935 units.
This achievement was supported by the presence of the first Battery EV vehicle, the Toyota bZ4X and the first locally produced Hybrid EV vehicle Kijang Innova Zenix. For models from the GAZOO Racing brand, Toyota tries to always bring maximum excitement to motorsport enthusiasts in Indonesia. In numbers, the composition of sales in 2022 on average reaches almost 72%.
This is an important provision for Toyota in developing GAZOO Racing which does not only include data from the world of racing, but also accommodates feedback from customers.
"Toyota sales this year are still dominated by MPV models which account for more than 50% of total 2022 sales of 191,010 units, up 21% from 2021," said Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor, Anton Jimmi Suwandy.
"Toyota's sales figures for 2022 quite reflect the culture of the Indonesian people which is heading in that direction. Where the ability to accommodate goods and people from the optimal MPV model is the favorite of the Indonesian people," he continued.
"Electrified vehicles have also experienced a significant increase this year, especially with the presence of the Kijang Innova Zenix Hybrid. This result will certainly be the basis for Toyota in developing technology that is in line with the mobility needs of society and is more environmentally friendly," explained Anton.
