Know What Driving Habits Need To Do To Maintain The Performance Of A Manual Transmission Car Part I

Technological developments applied to the transmission of private vehicles, especially cars, are currently growing to provide a more comfortable and safe driving experience. However, there are still many car drivers in Indonesia who need and use manual transmissions because of their reliability and toughness when used. Suzuki shares some tips on driving habits with manual transmission cars that can be done so that the components last longer, are safer and drive more efficiently.

"We often encounter high users of cars with manual transmission in various regions in Indonesia. Their habits when operating it also turned out to be diverse. Therefore, we feel the need to share advice so that driving a car with a manual transmission can feel more comfortable, safe and durable," said Hariadi, Asst. to Service Dept. Head of PT SIS.

According to Hariadi, drivers with manual transmission must understand various information about driving habits that can affect performance. The following are some habits that can be applied to motorists:

Shifting the shift lever in neutral when stopped at a traffic light

Some drivers have habits such as not moving the transmission lever to the neutral (N) position when stopping waiting for the traffic light to turn red, even when the foot is still on the clutch and brake pedals. This habit will certainly make the rider's leg muscles tire more quickly. For the safety factor, avoiding fatigue while keeping the clutch components more durable, Suzuki urges motorists to move the transmission lever to a neutral position and use the handbrake when the car is in a stationary position.

Avoid the habit of holding the transmission lever continuously

Some drivers have the habit of putting their hands on the transmission lever while driving, this habit should be avoided because it will affect the alertness of the driver. Suzuki recommends to motorists to release their hands after moving the transmission lever and return their hands to the steering wheel. The importance of always keeping your hands on the steering wheel is to provide security, safety and speed of reaction while driving.

Stepping on the clutch pedal halfway can reduce clutch life

When the car stops on an incline, many drivers step on the clutch pedal halfway to prevent the car from moving backwards. Even though this habit is actually detrimental because it will create excessive friction on the canvas / clutch disc. If the driver is in a condition that requires stopping on an incline, it is safer to use the handbrake to prevent the car from moving backwards. By leaving the habit of pressing the clutch pedal halfway and replacing it with the use of the handbrake, driving becomes safer and the clutch lasts longer.
