Toyota has just announced its newest electric car, which is now in the form of the Lexus RZ 2022. This car will become Toyota's line of electric vehicle (EV) globally. What's so great about the 2022 Lexus RZ?
Introduced during the Media Briefing on Battery EV Strategies, the Lexus RZ is considered a luxury version of the earlier Toyota bZ4X.
According to Toyota, this new electric car will provide a completely new driving experience and define Lexus' new standards for electric vehicles that combine comfort and dynamic performance.
Although it has been announced, but Toyota plans to make the global debut of the Lexus RZ next year. The schedule is still kept secret. Similarly, about what technology is contained in it, this Japanese manufacturer has not talked about much.
Lexus RZ Design Still Maintains Lexus Classic Style
Not much information has been revealed about the Lexus RZ 2022. What is shown is only the outer figure. The face still retains the classic Lexus-style spindle shape. It's just that the grille and airflow grille into the engine room are now closed, as is the case with the front fascia design of electric cars in general.
The main lights also still look sharp, and are equipped with LED Daytime Running Light (DRL). If we look at the shape of these headlights, they are slightly similar to those of the Lexus RX. The difference is, at the bottom of the lamp is painted with gloss black.
Will Be the Successor of the Lexus RX?
On the sides, the roofline has a dynamic flowing curve. Except for pillar A, all pillars are painted black which gives the impression of a floating roof. Again, this design is similar to the Lexus RX.
But this new car uses a double waistline design. The first has a line that extends from the front fender to the center of the body just below the B pillar. While the second line continues with a position slightly below it, creating a very dynamic impact effect.
In order to thicken the feel of a crossover or compact SUV, the fender lips are accented with black gloss. Similarly, at the bottom of the door there is an additional side skirt in a similar color. This is in line with the design of the wheels which also use a combination of silver and black.
At the back, the RZ uses LED lights which are quite unique. Then on the roof installed spoiler. But in the trunk there is also a little extra duck tail. Unfortunately for the interior there are no photos shown by Toyota.
As for the power, if indeed the RZ shares technology with the Toyota bZ4X, then it is likely that the battery and electric motor will be similar. For the record, the bZ4X uses a 72.8 kWh battery with a 215 PS electric motor. This battery is able to move the car as far as 350 kilometers until it completely runs out of electrical power.
However, quoted from Autohome, Lexus has registered the "RZ 450e" trademark in the United States, Europe and Australia. In fact, this step has been taken by Lexus since 2020. This indicates that this Lexus electric car may use the Lexus RZ 450e name.
Toyota No Longer Wants To Sell Cars Fueled By Oil
Through the event, Toyota also confirmed that the company had invested more than 2 trillion Yen. Funds of that amount for the development of batteries and their electric vehicle production facilities around the world.
This is in line with Toyota and Lexus' target to sell 3.5 million electric vehicles by 2030. While specifically for the Lexus brand, Toyota also targets to dominate all segments with EV models in less than ten years.
