In addition to overseeing the marketing of motorcycles and cars, PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) also focuses on the Suzuki Marine business unit which handles the sale of Outboard Motor (OBM) products.
As a form of responsibility towards the environment, Suzuki Marine itself has a "Suzuki Clean Ocean Project" campaign that focuses on activities aimed at reducing plastic waste in the ocean. To support these efforts, Suzuki Marine presents the Microplastic Collecting Device feature which is embedded in Suzuki's outboard engines.
"In Indonesia itself, Suzuki Marine has embedded the Microplastic Collecting Device feature on the Suzuki DF115B type outboard engine and has become standard equipment for Suzuki's outboard engines.
This feature works to filter micro-plastics that are sucked into the engine while the ship is being operated,” explained Aceng Ulumudin, Department Head of Marine PT SIS.
As Aceng said, the Microplastic Collecting Device feature is already available in Indonesia on the Suzuki DF115B type outboard engine. This feature does not affect the performance of the Suzuki outboard engine because it only utilizes circulating water that has been used to cool the engine.
According to previous internal research conducted in Japan, micro-plastic waste was found in substances collected through filters. This research was not only conducted in Japan, but also in several other countries. Therefore, users or owners of Suzuki-engined vessels contribute to maintaining the cleanliness of the oceans from micro-plastic waste.
The installation of this feature on the Suzuki outboard engine is one of the three commitments of Suzuki Marine in the "Suzuki Clean Ocean Project" campaign that has been carried out globally since 2011.
The first commitment is cleaning activities carried out on the coast, then the second commitment is reduce the use of plastic packaging, and the third commitment is to collect plastic waste in the sea, one of which is implemented by presenting the Microplastic Collecting Device feature.
"With the presence of the Microplastic Collecting Device feature, we hope that the marine environment can be kept clean. For the next step, we will continue to run the “Suzuki Clean Ocean Project” campaign by carrying out various activities in various areas of Indonesia. In addition, Suzuki also needs support from the community in realizing a clean sea and free from plastic waste," concluded Aceng.
