Prestige Motorcars bought some shares of PT Maxindo Renault Indonesia (3/12). This new alliance promises market penetration and improved service quality. One of their strategies is to work on the electric car market next year.
"We plan to focus more on bringing Renault EV cars to Indonesia, as well as our vision for 2021, which is to flood the streets of Indonesia with Renault EVs, which will certainly be sold at competitive prices. In addition, we will also encourage and support the government for the development of electric motor vehicle infrastructure in Indonesia," said Ruby Adeline, Marketing & PR Manager of Prestige Motorcars.
It is not impossible that this plan will become a reality when the Indonesian automotive market will be filled with many electric-powered cars. Indeed, many EV (Electric Vehicle) products are owned by global Renault today. But which one was brought to Indonesia there is no official statement. The following are some of the electric car product lines currently owned by Renault.
Twizy
Maybe you are familiar with this Renault EV model because it was shown at the 2019 GIIAS. It is uniquely shaped like a four-wheeled bicycle or a Cozy Coupe children's toy from Little Tikes. The dimensions are so compact, the measurement results are recorded at 2,338 x 1,381 x 1,458 mm (LxWxH). It's also a bit odd because it can fit two people in parallel positions. Not to forget the uniqueness of the scissor door like a supercar.
Not an accomplished runner or even a marathon athlete, Twizy is intended as a close-range commuting tool. Two drive options are offered, namely the 45 and 80 models. Each indicates top speed in kph. The 45 version is equipped with an electric motor as strong as 5 hp with a peak torque of 33 Nm. Meanwhile, the Type 80 has a potential as strong as 17 hp/57 Nm. Depending on the driving character, the range is claimed to be between 60-80 km from a single charge.
Fluence ZE
The manufacturer's Zero Emission (ZE) program gave birth to a complete selection of electric vehicles to fill various segments. In addition to the Twizy, there is the Renault Fluence ZE, starting life as a conventional compact sedan that was 'documented' to change beliefs. An old model, indeed. The base has existed since 2009 while the new electric model was produced from 2011.
Fluence ZE is marketed to several countries on the European continent. It is predicted to be one of the first cars that can take advantage of the battery swap scheme through Quick Drop technology. Not only in Europe, he also paved in South Korea through a subsidiary of Renault Samsung Motors (RSM) under the name SM3 ZE. Born from a facility in Busan to meet the demands of the Asia-Pacific market.
It was selling well in South Korea, even to the point of being the most popular EV in 2015. There it was chosen as the official government vehicle as well as the Seoul EV Taxi fleet. In 2017 made even more attractive. Mileage increased 57 percent to 213 km in the Korean rating cycle. This ability is obtained from increasing the battery capacity to 36 kWh without any additional weight.
Kangoo ZE
Accompanying the Fluence ZE, the Kangoo ZE represents Renault in the compact multifunction van segment. Together, the two became acquainted in the form of a concept at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show and then released in 2011. Currently, it is offered in various versions to meet various transportation needs. Want a short chassis and prioritize goods to a long wheelbase to accommodate passenger transportation.
The potential to travel long distances comes from a 33 kWh power source. Based on WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure) calculations, it can travel 230 km (combined) and 320 km (in-city cycle). Torque is also abundant, up to 225 Nm.
Master ZE
Not only Kangoo, Renault also brought Master as a member of EV in the realm of commercial vehicles. There are many combinations of body type, wheelbase length and height. Whether it's a panel van, platform cab, long or short chassis, and height. What is clear is that he prioritizes the ability to transport goods with gambot dimensions through the choice of body length from about 5.5 meters to 6.2 meters.
Maybe he wasn't meant to be a long-distance carrier. The reason is, the maximum mileage is only 120 km from one time fully charged. Meanwhile, the extraction of the electric motor is also not so great. Just prepare 76 hp accompanied by a torsional moment of 225 Nm.
Zoe ZE
If Prestige and MRI are serious about marketing electric cars at affordable prices, Zoe is a good fit. How not, from the exterior design alone characterizes. Compact in size with a length of 4 meters and the design is not so intimidating. Simple enough for an electric car, not trying to appear smarter than most conventional cars.
Zoe can be enjoyed in two booster options. Depending on the priority, prioritizing power extraction or coverage. The R110 unit offers an electric range of 394 km from a single battery charge. It's just that, that ability has to compromise strength with a record of 108 hp/225 Nm. Another story in the R135 spec, which can carve a power figure of 135 hp / 245 Nm for a maximum travel of 384 km.
City K-ZE
This Renault Kwid-based EV is also quite promising if the main consideration is affordable price. The basis alone is the CMF-A platform from Kwid which is Renault's cheapest vehicle at the moment. Dongfeng was partnered to regenerate into an electric car called City K-ZE. Just a drop or two of customization was given keeping the main design theme like Kwid.
City K-ZE carries a 26.8 kWh lithium ion battery. Not big but can be used to walk up to 271 km. This tiny battery is also a source of power for the electric motor that can draw power up to 44 hp and 125 Nm of torque. The rotation is channeled to the front wheels to reach a top speed of 105 km.
Twingo ZE
Twingo ZE is the seventh EV from the French manufacturer. Utilizing the special base of the Smart ForFour electric vehicle and then inscribed with a distinguishing design. It fills a niche market niche as a complement to Zoe in the B-segment. It seems that it cannot be expected to greet Indonesia. Launching Top Gear, the UK alone did not get the Twingo due to low demand and the high cost of developing a right-hand steering version.
On the Smart platform, the Twinggo ZE carries an electric motor that produces 82 hp while providing 160 Nm of torque. The 22 kWh battery provides the ability to cover a distance of about 250 km in the city or 180 km on a full cycle WLTP. The maximum speed itself is 135 km, enough to be used on the freeway.
