The development of the times and technology also affects various areas of life, including the world of two-wheeled automotive. Responding to an era that is so dynamic and rapidly changing, Yamaha as a global motorcycle manufacturer continues to innovate and has even prepared a long-term vision to meet people's riding needs.
In the face of future changes, Yamaha sees that it is very important to come up with an idea that can be a solution to global environmental issues such as Carbon Neutral with energy saving, air pollution prevention and waste reduction. Currently, consumers have also become more concerned and interested in new technologies, lifestyles, and government policies in order to create global environmental sustainability.
With such factors that also affect the scope of two-wheeled automotive, Yamaha also wants to answer this challenge by presenting an environmentally friendly vehicle, namely Electric Vehicle (EV). After the E01 was introduced at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show, Yamaha again displayed the motorcycle for the first time to the public in Indonesia at the Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2022.
Then the E01 was officially introduced at a press conference at the Head Office of PT. Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM), Pulogadung, East Jakarta, 22 April 2022.
One manifestation of Yamaha's passion based on Kando can be seen from the journey of developing Yamaha electric vehicle technology which began with the emergence of the Yamaha Power Assist System (PAS) e-bike in 1993.
After that, Yamaha's innovation continued to develop again to produce electric motorcycles marked by the presence of Yamaha. Passol in 2002, Yamaha EC-02 (2005), Yamaha EC-03 (2010), E-Vino (2014), Yamaha EC-05 (2019), Yamaha EMF (2022), to Yamaha E01 (2022).
“Yamaha's challenge in developing EVs began in 2002 with the first model named "Passol". Since then we have sold as many as 6 EV models to the global market in the record Yamaha history. And I'm proud to say a fact that Yamaha is the most experienced company with battery technology through our PAS (Power Assist System) bikes.
Until now, Yamaha has experience supplying more than 5 million units of electrical power assist for bicycles cumulatively to the world market in our long history," said Minoru Morimoto, President Director & CEO of PT Yamaha Indonesia Motor Manufacturing (YIMM).
Minoru Morimoto also added that the development of Yamaha electric motorcycles in Indonesia which is currently being carried out is still only a test market. "Unfortunately, we have not sold the EV model in Indonesia, but we have conducted a test market with the E-Vino.
And we also introduced the E01 at IIMS 2022 to see the opportunities related to this model. We are very happy to see the response and enthusiasm of the community is very high. And to answer this curiosity, today Yamaha Indonesia officially announced to conduct a market test of the E01 on public roads in Indonesia to see its adaptability and gather input from consumers directly. This is a "Proof of Concept" to answer Yamaha's EV challenges in Indonesia in the future," said Minoru Morimoto.
The E01 is equipped with all the functions expected from a 125cc class scooter and has a performance suitable for short to medium range (commuting) mobility. The E01 is a model that takes full advantage of Yamaha motorcycle technology and know-how, which is applied to the E01 concept.
This can be seen from the futuristic design, adopting a fixed battery that can be charged wherever consumers want with three types of charging systems (fast charging, normal charging, portable charging). E01 is very comfortable to drive and has advanced and intelligent features that support rider mobility. Features connected to smartphones are also found on the E01.
The E01 market test conducted by Yamaha in Indonesia aims to obtain the information needed regarding the development of electric-based vehicles that suit the needs of the Indonesian people. Later consumers will be given the opportunity to try the E01 which will begin in the second semester of this year in Yamaha's Proof of Concept Project.
In addition to presenting environmentally friendly electric motors, as a form of Yamaha Motor's commitment to reduce CO2 emissions in order to support the Carbon Neutral program, Yamaha Motor has started implementing solar panels at two Yamaha factories in Indonesia.
Yamaha designed the E01 with a modern design and equipped with advanced features and technology. This makes the E01 model very attractive with the functions of this motorcycle's features which are prepared to meet the challenges of the next era of motorcycle riding.
Futuristic Design
The design of the E01 illustrates the cleanliness or beauty of the characteristics of an electric motorcycle which is juxtaposed with the toughness of a Yamaha motorcycle design, this concept is named "A Human-Centric Juxtaposed Design", which juxtaposes 2 characteristics or themes. An example of its application can be seen from the E01 color concept which symbolizes cleanliness and modernity. The iconic color of E01 is a combination of racing blue as Yamaha's DNA and green which describes ECO Green, which is named Aqua or "Cyan" color.
Then the E01 color combination, namely Pearl White (Pearl White) and Black (Black) symbolizes cleanliness and modernity. The pearl white color on the body of the motorcycle illustrates the cleanliness and beauty of an EV motorcycle, and the black color highlights the functional parts that give a modern impression. Yamaha wants to present a unique design that is different from other electric motorcycles. This can be seen on the iconic front face of the E01 which makes this bike unique, with the position lights LED around the front charging port.
Battery & Charging System
The E01 electric scooter uses a fixed-lithium ion battery with a capacity of 4.9 kWh which can cover a distance of 104 km* when fully charged. Then it is equipped with a charging connector which is placed in front of the motor body which makes it easier to charge when the motorbike is parked. There are three types of charging, namely fast charging, normal charging, and portable charging that can be placed in the trunk of the motorbike.
Charger Type
Charging Fast 1 hour (0%-90%)** Normal 5 hours (0% - 100%) at (200 - 240 V)*** Portable 14 hours (0%-100%) at (100 - 240 V) ***
Powerful Performance
E01 has a high performance equivalent to a conventional 125cc motorcycle. As a superior electric motorcycle, the E01 is equipped with three riding modes, namely Power Mode, Standard Mode and Eco Mode.
