Electric Car Sales Rise in United States

Urban Science, an automotive consulting and technology company, conducted a study with the following results: electric car sales in the United States have jumped 41 percent.

Based on the data obtained, electric car sales have reached 6.2 percent of total new car sales in the first half of 2022. This figure is up 3.6 percent compared to the same period the previous year.

"The increase in Florida has made the entire Southeast region the fastest growing region today for electric car popularity," Mitch Phillips, Global Urban Science's data director, told Automotive News, quoted by Jalopnik.

From the data obtained, California has the highest sales volume, reaching 133,920 units in the first half of this year. This achievement represents a third of the total sales of electric vehicles as a whole in the United States.

Florida is in second place with a total of 33,006 electric vehicles sold. While that's 100,000 fewer than California's, this is a 64 percent increase from the previous year.

New York, Texas and New Jersey round out the top five states for the highest sales of electric vehicles. New York is only about 1,000 units adrift of Florida's total.

"This is really a race for second place. I say second place because it's doubtful any state will catch up to what California is doing in terms of electric vehicle sales," said Mitch Philips.

Urban Science estimates that the number of new vehicles sold in 2022 will fall slightly compared to 2021. Dealers are expected to sell five fewer vehicles this year than 2021's 826.
