Toyota is committed to advancing Indonesian motorsport by fielding the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Indonesia (TGRI) racing team in various national racing events.
It doesn't stop there, in line with the growing public interest in virtual-based motorsport competitions, PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM) presents the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing (TGR) GT Cup e-Motorsport competition since 2021.
Seeing the positive response given by e-Sport athletes and their fans, Toyota is again holding the TGR GT Cup 2022 to present Joy of GAZOO Racing (GR) to the entire community, as well as being a place for e-Sport athletes to be able to develop their talents.
“TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup 2022 is a Toyota Global e-Motorsport competition that we bring and compete in Indonesia. In collaboration with IMI (Indonesian Motor Association) as the parent organization of motor sports in Indonesia, we hope that this activity can contribute to the development of e-Motorsport in Indonesia," said Marketing Director of PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Anton Jimmi Suwandy.
"It also provides an opportunity for national e-Sport athletes to develop their skills and experience by bringing them to compete at the Asian, even global level," he continued.
The TGR GT Cup 2022 is attended by e-Sport athletes and Indonesian people over the age of 13 who have an interest in e-Motorsport.
The TGR GT Cup 2022 competition is accessed through the GRAN TURISMO 7 gaming platform which can be played with Playstation 4 and Playstation 5 gaming consoles.
This game provides a racing atmosphere like on a circuit, where players can experience the excitement of real-world racing.
So that players' driving skills can be honed well, including skills in finding the best settings for Toyota racing cars that are used according to circuit conditions.
TGR GT Cup 2022 Held Excitingly From Qualification Until Second Round
The participants of the TGR GT Cup 2022 have competed in the qualifying round on August 6, 2022 ago using a Toyota GR86 at the fictional Tokyo Expressway South circuit.
From the qualification results, 20 winners were selected which were divided into two classes, namely Rookie Class for 10 participants and Rising Star Class for 10 participants.
All of them advanced to the first, second, and final round of competition which are planned to be held offline on September 4, 2022 and will be broadcast live on Toyota Indonesia's official Youtube channel.
On August 13, 2022, all participants took part in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup 2022 First Round using the Toyota GR Supra at the Fuji International Speedway.
The race was very tight where all the competing participants tried to maximize their best driving skills to reach the leading position.
Appearing in the top 3 in the Rookie Class were Kevin Qadri Kurniawan Ma'ruf (P1), Niko Falah (P2), and Gregorius Nathan Syailendra (P3).
While in Rising Star Class, the winners were Moreno Pratama (P1), Andika Rama Maulana (P2), and Pradana Yogatama (P3).
Continued on August 20, 2022, all participants took part in the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup 2022 Second Round using the Toyota GR Yaris at the Autopolis International Racing Course.
The competition is very tight again, especially since the GR Yaris has a rally car character that is very agile and agile in the racing arena, making the competition exciting until the finish.
Appearing as the top 3 in the Rookie Class are Kevin Qadri Kurniawan Ma'ruf (P1), Ezekiel Des Noel (P2), and Niko Falah (P3).
While in the Rising Star Class, the winners were Andika Rama Maulana (P1), Pradana Yogatama (P2), and Moreno Pratama (P3).
Driver Ranking So Tight Until Final Round
The results of the second round of the race made the rankings of the drivers of each class so tight.
For the Rookie Class, the drivers' standings are Kevin Qadri Kurniawan Ma'ruf (26 Points), Niko Falah (18 Points), and Gregorius Nathan Syailendra and Dean Putro Dewanto (14 Points).
As for the Rising Star Class, the order is Andika Rama Maulana (22 Points), Moreno Pratama (21 Points), and Pradana Yogatama (19 Points).
This temporary ranking makes the competition in the final round very competitive considering that each participant still has the opportunity to become a national champion.
Furthermore, all participants will compete for the last time in the final round which is planned to take place on September 4, 2022.
In this offline event, they will drive the Toyota GR010 HYBRID as the world champion of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) endurance race at Circuit de la Sarthe.
The winner of the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup 2022 with the most points up to the final round will advance to the Asia Finals level competition in October 2022.
If you win again, you have the opportunity to advance to the Global Finals level in November 2022.
